Today’s post is by our Sales Manager, Jessie Sierra.
Last month, we looked at one of the ways to customize COATS to suit your business: buying the software or leasing it. You can also choose where your files are stored: on your own servers or on the cloud.
On your own server
Locally stored files give you security and reduces access times. This option requires an SQL server and at least one workstation (i.e., a computer to run COATS), with these hardware requirements.
Minimum server requirements:
- 1.4 GHz processor with “power user” level of RAM
- Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 2008 R2 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter editions, Windows Server 2012 Standard and Datacenter editions
- SQL Server 2005 Standard and Enterprise editions, SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2 Standard, Workgroup and Enterprise editions, or SQL Server 2012 Standard, Business Intelligence and Enterprise editions
- 40GB hard drive or greater
- Internet Explorer 7
- .NET Framework 2.0
Minimum workstation requirements:
- Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
- Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business and Ultimate Editions, Windows 7, Windows 8
- 40 GB Hard Drive
- Internet Explorer 7
- .NET Framework 2.0
If you’re going to store your files locally, we recommend that you have an IT person who can not only handle your network, but also knows SQL, in order to assist with updates and backups.
On the cloud
Online hosting provides flexibility, portability and automatic backup. COATS partners with Intellipath to provide hardware that meets all the requirements.
Your data will be loaded onto the Intellipath cloud, allowing you to access COATS from any place that has an internet connection, 24/7. Intellipath will be your IT department and will be responsible for the SQL server, backups and updates of both the SQL software and COATS.
The right option for you depends on your business’s needs: your levels of capital, your priorities for speed and access, the strength of your IT department.
